Moving 3,000 miles and furnishing an apartment from scratch is hella expensive. Combining John’s smarts and my craftiness, we are attempting to make this transition as thrifty and eco-friendly as possible. We are very fortunate that his new company is providing some reimbursement for relocation, but we will be using that for the deposit on our new apartment (more on that later). So we still need to come up with enough cash to get us from CT – WA. Enter, the interwebs.
Thanks to Craigslist I just parted with 2 Ikea Laiva bookcases. They served me well, the buyer got a great discount from retail price, and we added money to our piggy bank. Win-win-win.
Other ways we’re saving:
- Coupons, coupons, coupons. Seriously, we saved $10+ on our last grocery run.
- Bottles and cans. So far we’ve made $38 cashing these in.
- SmartyPig – one of the best sites ever recommended to me. We both set up interest-earning accounts, and linked donation widgets on our facebook/google/wishpot.
Other thrifty ways to make quick cash? Do tell.
